Allygroup is seeking dedicated and hardworking senior lawyers to join a high-profile federal government agency's Enforcement and Compliance Group for a six-month initial secondment engagement with the option for a six-month extension or the potential to convert to a permanent employee. The positions are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide.
Successful candidates will work across a range of large and complex investigations into suspected misconduct, guiding investigative teams in developing investigation strategies, planning and conducting investigations, providing legal input, and addressing the most complex issues. Additionally, they will be required to lead and manage resources to ensure timely and effective outcomes.
Key duties include:
utilising technology to analyse data, information, and documentation to identify and present relevant evidence and actively progress investigations.
identifying issues, including complex legal issues arising in investigations, and overcoming the more complex of these. This may include advice on evidence required to prove contraventions of legislation, admissibility of evidence in court, the use of statutory powers, and other technical, practical, or legal issues.
interviewing and obtaining information from a range of witnesses and developing relationships with witnesses.
giving evidence at civil and criminal hearings about investigations.
communicating with external parties regarding issues arising during the course of the investigation.
assisting in the compilation of briefs for the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecution (CDPP) and helping them prepare and conduct criminal prosecutions.
compiling administrative briefs to delegates, liaising with delegates, and representing the organisation at administrative hearings.
providing written and oral briefings to Senior Executives, Executive Directors, and Commissioners.
coaching and mentoring less experienced staff.
Our ideal candidates will have:
significant experience in a senior role involving investigation, case management, evidence-gathering processes, project management, or detection of misconduct, including conducting civil litigation and/or preparing criminal briefs of evidence.
experience in conducting complex litigation.
understanding of the law, practice, and policy relating to the Corporations Act, Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act, and other relevant financial services legislation.
strong legislative and evidence analysis skills.
highly developed writing and drafting skills, and the ability to communicate verbally in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
demonstrated ability to use digital investigative tools.
confidence in presenting, building rapport, interviewing, and advocating an organisation’s position in the context of complex issues.
experience in guiding and coaching other team members.
Candidates must be admitted to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory as a solicitor or barrister and hold (or be eligible for) a current legal practising certificate from the relevant State law society.
