Freedom of Information Officer

Allygroup is seeking a Freedom of Information Officer at the APS6 to EL1 equivalent level for a secondment opportunity at a high-profile Federal Government Department. This secondment opportunity is for an initial 4 month period with a possibility of further extension.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a team of highly skilled professionals and contribute to diverse, multi-disciplinary projects that will have an important impact on Australia's future. While full-time employment is preferred, part-time arrangements (minimum of 4 days per week) will be considered for the ideal candidate. 

This is a Canberra based opportunity, however opportunities in Sydney and Adelaide will be considered for the ideal candidate. 

A baseline security clearance is required for this position.


The Secondee will be required to perform all the functions necessary for managing requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, including but not limited to:

  • drafting emails

  • drafting internal notices

  • interpreting the scope of requests

  • drafting consultation notices

  • reviewing documents and preparing draft redactions based on instructions from the decision maker

  • drafting access decisions

  • updating matter management systems

  • contributing to weekly reporting

  • contributing to team meetings

  • assisting with briefing and other reporting, and if required assisting with Information Commissioner submissions or responses

  • ad hoc matters as directed
