Senior Federal Government Lawyer (Privacy and Admin)

Allygroup is seeking passionate senior lawyers to join a high-profile Commonwealth government department. This role offers the chance to get your foot in the door to a large government department doing meaningful and highly interesting work and build long-lasting connections. The position is set in a fast-paced and exciting environment, dealing with numerous complex pieces of legislation.

Key Details:

  • Duration: Six-month secondment with the possibility of extension

  • Location: Candidates must be based in Canberra.

  • Work Arrangements: Part-time options may be considered for the right candidate, but full-time is preferred

  • Security Clearance: NV1 security clearance or higher is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support support the department’s implementation of the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024, as well as business as usual privacy law advising and governance work.

  • Provide general administrative law advice and assist in the conduct of proceedings in the Administrative Review Tribunal.

  • Support the department's legislation development work, including in connection with the management of FF(SP) amendments as required.

Our ideal candidate would have experience in:

  • Implementing legislative reforms and regulatory compliance

  • Privacy law compliance and governance processes

  • Administrative law, including decision-making and litigation

  • Development of legislation

  • Undertaking legal research
