Allygroup is seeking a lawyer with a strong background in administrative law, regulatory law, and/or civil penalty litigation, to join an important federal government department. This is a secondment opportunity to commence immediately till the end of the financial year, with the possibility of further extension.
Candidates must be Australian citizens and admitted to practice law in Australia.
Desirable knowledge and experience include:
Area of Law: administrative law, regulatory law, and/or civil penalty litigation
Minimum 5 years of PAE
Full-time and Canberra-based candidates are preferred, but off-site or part-time arrangements may also be considered for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities:
Provide legal services on the administration of the Biosecurity Act 2015, including regulatory advice.
Provide advice on defensible decision-making, statutory interpretation, and processes under the Biosecurity Act, the Imported Food Control Act 1992, and the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act 2012.
Advise on civil penalties and progress matters to court proceedings.
Review and develop policies that support the progress of civil penalty cases and liaise with other areas of the department in the development of those materials.
