Paralegal (High-profile Federal Government Agency)

Allygroup is seeking a law student and/or experienced paralegal for a secondment with a high-profile federal government agency. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in professional services and establish long-lasting contacts within a government agency. The position is set in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, dealing with numerous complex pieces of legislation.

Candidates must be based in Canberra and hold an NV1 security clearance or higher to be considered. Part-time working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities: 

  • administering and coordinating the legal support function, including finances, reporting, database, file and record management, logistic support and workflow management.

  • arranging and administering supplementary legal resources, including personnel to support the delivery of legal services, events and training.

  • applying specialist knowledge to established practices and procedures to assist the conduct of formal legal and administrative processes, including for courts, tribunals, inquiries and government administration.

  • applying specialist knowledge to draft routine legal and administrative correspondence and documents to support legal officers in the delivery of legal services.

  • working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of legal services.

  • facilitating the participation of individuals in legal and administrative fora.

  • assessing and directing tasks in compliance with established practices and principles.

  • evaluating workflows, practices and the office environment to identify risks, opportunities and improvement

  • conducting legal research to support legal officers in the delivery of legal services.

Experience in a relevant legal environment (for example, as a paralegal, law clerk or administrative support staff member) would be highly desirable.
